During the COVID-19 crisis, the Internet has been essential to our lives in ways that we didn’t envision just a few time ago. This has demonstrated the immense value that the Internet brings to society, while raising awareness of the gaps and concerns about the implications for privacy, security, and more. This year the Moldova Internet Governance Forum will be held as a two-day conference (both in a live and online format) on November 23 and 24.

This year’s Forum will revolve around the following focus areas:

  • Internet Governance in the context of digital transformation. Privacy vs freedom in the digital space — road to the balance.
  • COVID-19 lessons learned — need to be more digital.
  • The constitutional right to Internet access: Experiences from other countries and findings for Moldova.
  • Internet of things, artificial intelligence, business digitalization/mobility and other new Internet opportunities — adopting international experience at the national level.
  • Trust and Security in the Internet space. National roadmap and regional cooperation.
  • Use of the Internet in the context of the European standards for the protection of personal data. National experience of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and new security models.
  • The impact of the Internet — negative phenomena as a cybercrime, propaganda, fake news. Regional specific and Moldovan experience in overcoming them.
  • Cyber hygiene — Building a culture of digital safety (Side event).

The preliminary version of the Forum Agenda topics was developed on the basis of a series of discussions with representatives of the community from different stakeholder groups: civil society, technical community and academia, private sector, Government and public sector. Your ideas and suggestions for MIGF 2020 can be sent via suggestions form on the event website (www.igf.md) or using social media channels.

The programme develops around the four main thematic tracks: (1) Data; (2) Environment; (3) Inclusion; (4) Trust. The theme of «digital cooperation» and the UN Secretary-General’s Roadmap for digital cooperation will also feature ‎prominently. The meeting will be officially opened on 9 November and closed on 17 November.
